A Difficult Summer — and a Reminder of What Matters

Dear Quizzability community,

Summer is usually a time to slow down, spend time outdoors and enjoy the natural world. Yet this year, across the Northern Hemisphere, it has been difficult to ignore how much our environment is changing. From devastating wildfires and extreme heat to floods, droughts and storms, communities, ecosystems and economies have all felt the consequences of an increasingly unpredictable climate.

These events are a reminder that nature is not separate from our economies or our institutions. Healthy forests, rivers, soils and oceans provide the foundations on which our societies depend, while climate disruption affects everything from agriculture and infrastructure to supply chains, public finances and social stability. Protecting nature is therefore more than simply an environmental responsibility, for it is an economic and institutional necessity.

At Quizzability, we believe education has an essential role to play in this transition. We cannot build resilient organisations and communities if sustainability remains a topic reserved for specialists. Students, employees, managers, entrepreneurs and citizens all need the knowledge to understand the challenges we face and, more importantly, to make better decisions in response to them.

This is also why we need to become more proactive. Instead of waiting for the next wildfire, flood or heatwave to remind us of our vulnerabilities, we need to invest in prevention, resilience and knowledge today. Strong economies and stable institutions depend on the health of the natural systems that support them.

As summer comes to an end, perhaps the most important question is “What can we do differently before next summer?”

At Quizzability, we will continue working towards a future where sustainability is understood not as a constraint on prosperity, but as one of its foundations.
